Bronxville School Board To Hold Second Special Election On Hayes Field

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Voters within the Bronxville School District will have a second chance to vote in a special election to approve a synthetic turf playing surface at Hayes Field after it was narrowly rejected in a vote in January. After hearing the outcry from parents and students after the proposition was rejected by 18 voters in the first election , the Bronxville Board of Education determined that a revised version of the plan should be put back up to vote in May. The new proposal, which came in $400,000 cheaper than the original, features no alterations to the present building and will provide an environmentally friendly playing surface, an issue that has plagued the district for years.

Following the public outcry of students and parents in favor of installing a synthetic playing surface at Hayes Field, the Bronxville Board of Education announced it will spend part of its upcoming budget workshop to discuss the issue. Westchester's Veterans Service Agency Chief Pinto Leaving Government

Vito Pinto, the director of the county's Veterans Service Agency and the Office of STOP-DWI and Drug Prevention, will be stepping down at the end of March, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced Friday. A former Democratic county legislator, Eastchester councilman and Tuckahoe village trustee, Pinto served 27 years in elected office prior to being appointed by Astorino in 2010 to lead the county's efforts to assist veterans.

Tuckahoe Schools 'Build Bridges' Toward Children With Disabilities

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. In an effort to help their youngest students understand the struggles their peers with disabilities face each day, the William E. Cottle Elementary School has introduced the Building Bridges program, featuring activities and guest speakers. Last week, officials with the Tuckahoe School District introduced the program, which includes interactive classroom activities and guest speakers with the intention of teaching kindergarten through fifth graders about what it's like to be a person with "different abilities."
